Talking about one's feelings isn't easy. For some, it becomes easier over time. For others, it remains a challenge, so much so that it may keep them from addressing their emotional or behavioral challenges. This can be especially effective for individuals that are adverse to 'talking' to a therapist, as it provides a fun outlet for expression, while simultaneously allowing for deeper exploration of whatever may be going on in their worlds.
For others - Art therapy provides deeper experiences than traditional therapy, as the unconscious is addressed through non-verbal expression. It can serve as an adjunct to ongoing therapy, or, more often, stand on its own, as the interplay between creative expression and conversation provides for a deepening of self awareness.
